ArtParty Weekender: MERA BHAI + LIVE JAZZ W/ INSXGHT
MERA BHAI 9PM: Born in London, with roots in India, alongside time spent growing up in Italy, Albania, Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Nigeria, Mera Bhai’s worldly influence seeps into his unique take on dance music. Known as a founding member of Tropical-Psychedelia band Flamingods, the multi-instrumentalist has worked closely with Moshi Moshi Records, Soundway Records and Total Refreshment Centre.
Hard to pin down, Mera Bhai is centred on a musical balance, between eastern and western traditions, the new and the old. Taking influence from Indian Carnatic music, Arabic Rai and 70s Disco, with a heavy dose of 80s/90s Acid House, Detroit techno and Tropicalia on top. “Having grown up all over the world,” Karthik explains, “I was surrounded by a wealth of different sounds - I’m just trying to weave the cultural through line that I hear in music”.
INSXGHT 8PM: INSXGHT is a young artist/producer hailing from South East London. Known for his relaxing and meditative jazz piano and drawing inspiration from the likes of Robert Glasper, J Dilla and Spirit Fingers. He began his musical journey in the early stages of his life where he played in Jazz bands and started composing for numerous artists.
Throughout life, INSXGHT found incredible musicians to journey with. These musicians have performed with the likes of Yazmin Lacey, New Familiar (formerly known as skinny living), Lex Amor, Berwyn, Wizkid, and many more.
So be prepared for a night of spectacular music... This is one for the books!
DJ LUMA 6PM: LUMA is a British-Iraqi DJ and radio host from South East London. Her Arabic heritage and urban London roots influence her global and far reaching selection of club ready rhythmic percussion and weighty bass, hopping around tempos, genres and moods.
