Samara Joy
Fans of long-gone, legendary jazz singers like Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan will not want to miss hearing the phenomenal Samara Joy.
This 23-year-old from the Bronx has been dazzling connoisseurs of great singing with her exquisite renditions of standards like “Stardust” and “Solitude.”
No words are adequate to describe Joy’s voice, a once-in-a-generation instrument, and her masterful, “old-soul” way of interpreting this repertoire.
A third-generation singer, she got her start singing in church and with the jazz band at Fordham High School for the Arts — she won the Best Vocalist award performing with them at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington Competition.
In 2019 she won the Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition. Her debut album, “Samara Joy” (2021) was recorded with virtuoso guitarist Pasquale Grasso, drummer Kenny Washington, bassist David Wong, and pianist Ben Paterson. The CD received rave reviews and introduced her to fans around the world.
Joy’s second CD “Linger Awhile” (2022) will make listeners want to do just that.
