It's a huge honour for the Sound Lounge to play host to China Crisis as part of their extensive autumn 2024 UK tour, in what will be one of the quartet's most intimate shows in many years.

China Crisis were never your run-of-the-mill 80s pop band. Formed in Liverpool by singer Gary Daly and guitarist Eddie Lundon, they distilled their love of David Bowie and Steely Dan into an exquisitely melancholy post-punk sound that saw them win their just chart rewards. Has there ever been a more wistful Top 10 hit than the charming Wishful Thinking?

Fans of the band's thoughtful new wave-pop style will also fondly remember the Top 20 hits Christian, Black Man Ray and King in a Catholic Style and the early albums Difficult Shapes & Passive Rhythms - Some People Think It's Fun to Entertain and Working with Fire and Steel.

Their hero Walter Becker – of Steely Dan fame – was so impressed that he even became a band member back in 1985, producing and playing on the Top 10 album Flaunt the Imperfection, and returning for 1989’s hugely acclaimed Diary of a Hollow Horse.

The band continued to work together as well as pursuing individual projects, releasing Autumn in the Neighbourhood, their first studio album for 21 years, in 2015. Their extensive latter-day touring activity has now been augmented by the 2024 album China Greatness, which features hits, favourites and remixes, newly presented in a cinematic style. To underline the enduring popularity of this great band, it entered the Official Charts Company's Vinyl Albums Chart at No.5.

And so to Sutton and another night for the Sound Lounge memory bank! Please note that this is an unreserved mixed seating and standing show.
