"Facing the Music" seamlessly integrates a powerful lecture with live musical performances, offering an in-depth exploration of resilience and personal growth. The presentation opens with the song "Life Behind the Wheel," where Dave Schlossberg introduces central themes, such as “hearing every wave,” which acknowledges life’s unique gifts and challenges - followed by a breathing exercise that underscores the importance of mindfulness in his journey.
Dave shares the story of his life-altering accident and candidly discusses his immediate losses, the grieving process, and the long-term psychological effects of trauma. Themes of perseverance and faith emerge throughout his rehabilitation experience, alongside a focus on love—both for oneself and for family.
Dave also addresses his community's growth in understanding disability and he reflects on his journey of forgiveness, particularly following a message from the woman responsible for the drunk driving accident. Concluding with insights into the realities of living with a spinal cord injury, Dave emphasizes hope and resilience, encouraging attendees to confront their challenges and embrace personal growth. Overall, the presentation serves to inspire, inform, and entertain, leaving a lasting impact on all who attend.
