Flickers' Jewish Experience
The Flickers' Jewish Experience is a dynamic short film showcase that highlights cinematic perspectives from throughout the Jewish diaspora. The biannual series is an official sidebar of the Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival, and serves as an important platform for Jewish narratives worldwide.

The Father’s Silence | directed by Mariella Santibáñez Koref | 18 min. | Germany, 2022.
Only a few years before his death, Mrs. Salomon realizes that her father was a Holocaust survivor. He barely talked about his traumatic past. He was a joyful person who taught her how to celebrate every day of life. For many years Mrs. Salomon did not even know about her Jewish roots. Only after his death she starts exploring her heritage and realizes that she never really knew her father. Nevertheless, his trauma influences her life until today.

Interweaving super 8 family films, archival material and experimental animation, a granddaughter takes a deep dive into the remarkable life of her indomitable grandmother: a writer, WWII refugee and Holocaust survivor. “Anyuka” meaning mother in Hungarian, explores: intergenerational trauma, the Jewish diaspora, immigration, motherhood, and religious identity—to tell the story of a tragic and marvelous life across continents.

When Caryl Churchill wrote ‘Seven Jewish Children’ in 2009, it was as a direct response to the atrocities happening in Gaza at the time. 15 years later the text is more relevant and chilling than ever. The idea behind the filmed version of ‘Seven Jewish Children’ is to encourage the audience to take a step back. When you look at things with a wider paradigm you start seeing how history repeats itself. The victim mindset is hard to escape but it is essential to do so in order to find a humane solution.
