Gerald Veasley's Unscripted Jam #1 - Friday
Bassist Gerald Veasley has been a fixture at Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest almost from the beginning, performing with many bands and hosting events. But he may be best known for his late-night jam sessions that allow festivalgoers to keep the party going and experience the true heart of jazz: the spontaneous coming-together of musicians to have thrilling musical conversations with no prior rehearsal.
Beginning in 2011, the Veasley’s Midnight Jams became a popular event with both audiences and musicians.
Aside from a host of scheduled players, you never know who else might show up to join the fun, including some headliners. Now called the Gerald Veasley Unscripted Jam, the event is held on Friday and Saturday nights at 11:30 in the DoubleTree Hotel’s small ballroom during the festival. It is based on Veasley’s Unscripted Jazz Series, held weekly at SOUTH Restaurant and Jazz Parlor in Philadelphia. The series showcases “contemporary jazz artists who stretch the boundaries between straight-ahead, smooth and soul.”
