The Rochester Lilac Festival presents "Partners with a Purpose" night on the MGM Associates of Rochester VIP High Spot Party Deck. For one night only, we are lowering the cost of our VIP tickets to a minimum donation of $4.90. 100% of the proceeds will go to benefit 490 Farmers. We encourage our community to make additional donations at the time of purchase and on the Party Deck while you enjoy a great evening at the festival!
About 490 Farmers:
490 Farmers was founded in the fall of 2017 as a grassroots crew of neighbors and friends to create a community garden on a vacant lot beside I-490 in Southeast Rochester, NY. Our mission is to learn alongside Rochester residents and youth to build community, provide land access, and address food insecurity through urban agriculture. Guided by principles of mutual aid, we aim to steward a space where all feel welcome and integral to this mission, thereby pushing our city toward a more resilient and equitable future.
Beginning with just 10 garden plots & a shed, in five seasons we have grown to offer over 50 garden plots for rent, Children's Garden, Free Food Forest, Flower Farm, Free Food Stand, community beehives, composting and more. Throughout the growing season we host regular workshops, weekly volunteer days, youth education programs, and outreach events.
All community spaces at the farm are open to the public including the Food Forest, Children's Garden & U- Pick Flower Farm. Our Free Food Stand is regularly stocked with the help of community members for anyone in need to help themselves. Our raised bed garden plots are rented and stewarded by individuals & families, including members of our neighboring houseless community, to grow their own food, build connections & support one another. Through partnerships with local schools & organizations, we also provide a wealth of opportunities for folks to get involved or learn more about gardening, sustainability, & activism. https://www.490farmers.com/(opens in a new tab)
