Tour Schedule
For Dear Life Highlights Tour/ 11:30am
For Dear Life Focused Narratives: Alternate Realities / 2pm-3pm
The works showcased on this tour asks us to consider alternate modes of practice in the realms of art and medicine. It pushes back against the Western ideal of a singular genius and exclusive institutions that are disabling. Through alterity these artists have sought new ways of healing, creation, and support that simultaneously tackled the issues of their time at large. The work also speaks to punk/queer aesthetics that many artists and activists embody. Ranging from performance, sculpture, drawing, and writing, the works promote radical notions of navigating the world both for the able and disabled body.
For Dear Life Focused Narratives: Community / 4pm-5pm
Many of the artists in For Dear Life; Art, Medicine, and Disability highlight the communities of support that hold them and influence their art practice. Through friends, colleagues, activism, and family these artists connect with each other and reflect on the strength and support brought by these relationships. In this tour explore how community is present in the works of Beverly Buchanan, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Judith Scott, Mundo Meza, Frank C. Moore, Simone Leigh, and Park McArthur.
For Dear Life Focused Narratives: Affirmations and Joy / 6pm-7pm
This tour will explore artists whose creations engage with themes of personal significance, emphasizing affirmations, humor, and joy. Join us as we highlight the works of Carmen Papalia, Ray Navarro, Constantina Zavistanos, and others and their humorous invitation to reflect on issues of body vulnerabilities.
