Men's and Women's 1000m Final: This is a race of four to five skaters, for nine laps. Racers attempt to get into a strategic position for the final sprint.

Women's 3000m: This is the longest distance for women at the Games. The athlete focuses on increasing their speed in each of the 7.5 laps. They accelerate through the turns and maintain speed on the straights.

Men's 5000m: This is the longest distance for men at the Games. Top skaters will target 29- to 30-second laps over 12.5 laps.

Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games

The FISU World University Games is the largest international winter multi-sport event for collegiate-athletes. The Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games, happening January 12-22, 2023, will bring 2,500 collegiate-athletes and delegation officials from more than 50 nations and 600+ universities to Lake Placid and the surrounding North Country region. This 11-day international educational event and competition is expected to be twice the size of Lake Placid’s 1980 Olympic Winter Games as athletes will be competing in 12 sports and 86 medal events.
