The Acoustic Blues Revue LIVE at The Sound Lounge
Welcome to our new 'American Roots' series of shows, bringing you the best of traditional American music from this country's finest folk, blues, country, bluegrass and Appalachian music specialists and performers.
On Tuesday September 24th we welcome The Acoustic Blues Revue to The Sound Lounge. The Acoustic Blues Revue are Simon Prager, Doc Stenson and Wendy Lanchin and they play the music that kickstarted the most popular music of the 20th century, black American music from the 1920s to the 1950s. As their name suggests they focus on the blues, but they also play ragtime, skiffle and jazz.
Simon, Doc and Wendy bring their wealth of experience and expertise to make the music live again and show its continuing contemporary relevance.
Simon Prager (guitar, vocals) has been playing since the 1960s and is acknowledged as a great player of acoustic blues. Originally inspired by the legendary blues and gospel guitarist, Rev. Gary Davis, he’s played for years with Doc Stenson, another great guitarist who is a renowned harmonica player.
Together they recreate the guitar/harp sound essential to so much of the blues.
Wendy Lanchin is the third member of the Revue. Wendy comes from a jazz background and is a great interpretator of the songs made famous by singers Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday and others. Wendy met Simon at an online singaround during lockdown and they quickly realised the great synergy between them. Her material completes the trio who can now claim to cover the most essential aspects of acoustic blues.
