"The Bug Guy," who will introduce the audience to the many pollinators in our ecosystem and discuss the important role they play in our lives. At 7:30 pm, GRAMMY-nominated keyboardist Peter Kiesewalter and accomplished Broadway and pop music violinist Whitney La Grange will present The Moth Project, a unique, visually stunning multimedia performance about and inspired by moths that focuses on the parallel journeys of humans and all living things and the connections between humans and nature.

7:00 pm: Lecture: Pretty Pollinators and the Double Lives They Live

Worldwide, insects provide hundreds of billions of dollars of ecosystem service by pollinating major food crops. In fact, every third bite of food you take is created by pollinators. But many of our pretty pollinators live double lives, providing a second ecosystem service called biological control. Come explore the biology and ecology of predatory and parasitic flies, wasps, beetles, and lacewings - Mother Nature’s hit-squad. Learn how to make your landscape a welcoming home for these beautiful and beneficial insects.

Michael J. Raupp, Professor Emeritus of Entomology and Extension Specialist at the University of Maryland, has maintained bugoftheweek.com(opens in a new tab) for over fifteen years and is a frequent guest bug expert for Good Morning America, NPR, and other news outlets. He has appeared on BBC, CNN, National Geographic Ultimate Explorer, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, among others.

7:30 pm: The Moth Project

The Moth Project is a unique multimedia performance featuring GRAMMY-nominated keyboardist Peter Kiesewalter and accomplished Broadway and pop music violinist Whitney La Grange who play a wide variety of music—from Bach to Joni Mitchell to KISS—in front of a large screen featuring moths and the fascinating world they inhabit.
