Victor Wooten & The Wooten Brothers
It’s all about the bass night.
Renowned electric bassist Wooten grew up in a houseful of brothers -- Roy, Regi, Rudy and Joseph -- who all played instruments and performed as a family band.
All except Rudy, a gifted saxophonist who passed away in 2010, are still professional musicians.
Wooten, a five-time Grammy winner, met banjo virtuoso Bela Fleck while playing fiddle at Busch Gardens. Fleck, Victor, and Roy (Future Man) Wooten joined with pianist/harmonicist Howard Levy to form Bela Fleck & The Flecktones in 1988.
In 2011, Rolling Stone chose Victor as one of the Top 10 Bassists of All Time. Victor has released 10 solo albums, and 15 with Fleck, and many collaborative projects.
Future Man performs on drums and the SythAxeDrumitar, a drum synthesizer that he invented and developed. Regi plays guitar and has been compared to Jimi Hendrix for his style and staggering technique. Joseph, the keyboardist, is the keyboard/vocalist in the Steve Miller Band, and has his own band, Joseph Wooten, and the Hands of Soul.
The Williamsport, Pa.-based jazz fusion trio Teen Town, which debuted in 2017, is led by award-winning bassist Gabriel Severn, who is now 17; with Logan Bedard on drums and Connor Rohrer on keyboards.
Named for the song by the late Jaco Pastorius, which Severn learned during his childhood, the trio has performed at the Elkhart Jazz Festival, Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest, Musikfest and other regional venues.
They have also opened for Sheila E., the Victor Wooten Trio, the Tierney Sutton Band, and others.
Teen Town released their debut album, “A Month of Sundays,” in 2022.
